Bioethics Program Alumna Courtney Jarboe will present the webinar, “Ethical Challenges in State-Mandated Newborn Screening” on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from noon-1 pm ET. 

Courtney Jarboe is a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and a recent graduate of Union Graduate College’s Bioethics Program, with a Master of Science degree specializing in research ethics. Her capstone focused on the history and challenges faced by Minnesota’s newborn screening program, which underwent scrutiny for using newborn screening dried blood samples for research without written parental consent. She has worked in IRB administration for 8 years and recently transitioned to the role of Education and Outreach Specialist for the University of Minnesota, where she is responsible for leading the university’s research ethics education program.
