Change in Library Evening HoursThe evening hours program at the National Reference Center for Bioethics Literature is being restructured to address the needs of the larger community of those interested in bioethical issues. Due to a 40% cut to our funding in early 2007, the library staff is no longer able to offer routine evening hours on Tuesday. However, the library will continue to be open as usual from 9 to 5, Monday through Friday, and – during the spring and fall semesters – on Saturday from noon to five. (Please consult the library website for any holiday variations.) For groups at local educational institutions, libraries, and other organizations, we plan to expand the evening program to offer opportunities for scheduled instruction, research assistance, and special events by reservation and/or appointment. For example, a team of two librarians might provide an introduction to the collection, instruction in searching the holdings, and practice exercises as part of a brief library colloquium. Alternatively, films or documentaries might be offered to showcase items in the NRCBL audiovisual collection. These evening sessions could be scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, or possibly on Saturday mornings from 10 to noon. It is our hope that this proposal
will not only allow us to introduce the library to interested persons, but also
to focus on providing a variety of targeted services to students, educators,
health care professionals, and the general public. To request an evening or
Saturday morning session for a group please email: bioethics@georgetown.edu. |
