Home >> NRCBL >> Visit the NRCBL >> Entrance and Library Use Policies Entrance and Library Use PoliciesThe NRCBL is a public resource, open to all. In a typical year, visitors from all over the United States and nearly every continent have come to the library to study bioethics. Cell Phone PolicyTo avoid disrupting the research and study of library users and to minimize noise at service points, cellular telephones should be turned off while in the library. Entrance ProceduresReference librarians located at the entrance of the NRCBL will require a positive, photographic ID for those entering the NRCBL. Everyone must sign the entrance log. All bags, including laptop bags and purses, must be left at the reference desk. All items needed during your stay in the NRCBL must be taken from the bag prior to entering the NRCBL. All persons will be given a baggage check number for retrieving their item upon exiting the NRCBL. All persons are required to pass through the electronic detection system to enter the NRCBL. Any questions about the Entrance Policy should be directed to the reference librarian. Exit ProceduresAll persons leaving the NRCBL must pass through the electronic detection system installed at the exit of the NRCBL. Occasionally non-library materials, such as videos from a rental business or books from a bookstore, may activate the detection system. If the alarm sounds, you must present all materials for inspection to the reference librarian or NRCBL staff member. Disciplinary action will be taken when someone attempts to remove NRCBL owned materials without proper authorization. Patrons must sign out in the entrance log and the reference librarian will retrieve the patron's bag from the bag check area, if necessary. Food and DrinkDrinking of water, in covered containers which permit minimal spillage, is permitted, except near any electronic equipment such as computers, microform reader/printers, or television monitors. Food may not be eaten in the NRCBL. Laptop Usage in the LibraryPlease do not leave your laptop or any other personal belongings unattended.
